Benefits of Yoga in Personal & Professional life - Dr Subhash Chandra

A 5000 year old ancient Indian body of knowledge - Yoga - well known since centuries. Yet, the general outlook towards this ancient science has either been of a fashion/fad for the wealthy, sheer intimidation of the complexity or just plain ignorance towards the benefits. Still, the world keeps coming back to Yoga.

Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj', to mean the union of soul with the spirit. Many a folk believe yoga to be another form of physical exercise with complex twisting, turning, stretching and breathing. In fact the stretches, twists and turns are only the most superficial aspect of this profound science of unfolding the infinite potentials of the human mind and soul.

To express upon the topic of this very ancient science, in the latest episode of the Dr. Subhash Chandra Show, Chairman of Essel Group and ZEE, Dr Subhash Chandra, talked about the benefits of yoga in one's personal and professional life.

Dr Chandra discussed yoga and its positive effects with entrepreneurs. Around 150 entrepreneurs from India’s capital attended the session to learn about yoga asanas and its health benefits which can assist in improving one's health, concentration, reduce stress and fight negativity.

Dr Chandra began his address by talking about priorities in one's life. If one is clear on their priorities, then one's life will be smooth sailing. Having said that he explained the four main priorities in life:

  1. A Healthy Body
  2. Money
  3. A supportive spouse
  4. An obedient offspring

Prior to talking about the core topic - Yoga - Dr. Chandra emphasized that one needs to understand life.

Hence, he explained the four predominant types of personalities:

  1. One who is predominantly emotional
  2. One who is predominantly intellectual
  3. One who has a balance between emotional & intellectual qualities
  4. One who has one of the quality more than the other.

Understanding one’s type of personality can help in addressing and managing stressful situations that appear in one’s life. Dr Chandra emphasized how yoga helps in creating a balance in life. He said that our first priority in life should be a healthy body, the rest should come afterwards and yoga helps in achieving a sound body. He further said that in order to work productively we need a sharp and fertile mind which can be easily achieved through regular practise of yoga.

Further addressing the entrepreneurs, Dr Chandra said that yoga is a union between the mind and body and when there is a better coordination between the two then one can take better decisions which helps us progress in our career and personal life. The breathing exercises in yoga help in dealing and managing stress.

During this special show, in order to encourage the entrepreneurs present at the venue to actively take up yoga, Dr Chandra took assistance of a yoga instructor who exhibited 8 different asanas that can be easily done anywhere to help in attaining better health. These simple asanas could be performed by businessmen and the like in the comfort of the office by only sparing few minutes from their busy schedule. As each asana was performed, Dr Chandra explained the significance and benefits.

With this, Dr Chandra concluded the discussion by emphasizing that if yoga is done the right manner and regularly, it can work like an elixir to one's life.
