On 23rd September, 2012, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. launched India's first 24 -hour Bengali Movie channel- Zee Bangla Cinema, in Kolkata. Within a year of its launch, Zee Bangla Cinema carved a permanent place in people’s hearts. With a rich and varied film library, it has made a big difference to the lives of millions of audiences. This is the only Bengali cinema channel of its kind that straddles across different genres and eras- from the masterpieces of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Ritwick Ghatak, Tarun Mazumdar to the present films of directors like Anik Dutta, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Raj Chakraborty, Sandip Ray and Anjan Dutt. With a highly youthful and engaging content, Zee Bangla Cinema has been a ready source of trivia from film news to music releases to muhuraats, along with a mixed and exciting bag of blockbusters, parallel films and films from the golden era.

A mix of classic films and modern films has entertained the audience in the truest sense. On social media channels like Facebook and Twitter Zee Bangla Cinema stays active with its large fan following. It creates conversations, engages the audience with entertaining content, gossip, news, updates and all possible aspects of Bengali film industry.

In August 2015, Zee Bangla Cinema changed its logo keeping in mind the fact that it was coming in a new form to entertain its audiences in a better way!

"The journey of a thousand miles began with one step" when a year back Zee Bangla Cinema took the bold clutter breaking step with Zee Bangla Cinema Originals. Unlike theatre release Zee Bangla Cinema Originals movies release in television. ‘Ekla Cholo’ (Walk alone) was the first presentation of Originals, exclusively for television audiences. Since then, a legacy has been created with two Original Films telecast every month. The best of talent from the industry joined hands and triumphantly crossed over the most challenging block of producing two new movies under the branding of ZBC originals. Wrestling it out with mainstream big budget movies, Originals created its own niche of loyal audience catering to various genres and innovating concepts.  Ekla Cholo, Onno Bosonto, Swadey Ahladey, Bhengchi, Loadshedding, Guti Mallhar, Tak Jhal Misti, Sei Meyeta and many more gems have been created since then. Stalwarts like Arindam Sil, National award winner Pradipta Bhattacharya, Haranath Chakraborty, Raj Chakraborty, Abhijit Guha, Sudeshna Roy, Kamaleshwar Mukherjee and many other prominent film personalities have been part of this venture as filmmakers throughout. Today, the phenomena of Originals is not only restricted to the film lovers of West Bengal but has cut across all boundaries from Dhaka to New York.
